Lead

He must become greater; I must become less.” – John 3:30

We are called into leadership not to serve our own egos or selfish desires, but rather to use our God-ordained gifts to make disciples of all the nations.  Those in leadership positions learn that it is not about them, rather, but about God.  If you are feeling called into leadership at HHPC, read below for information about various opportunities.

Join a committee

HHPC is run by a collection of committees tasked with various responsibilities.  Descriptions of each committee are below.  You may express interest in joining any committee by contacting the pastor of the chair of the particular committee.

Building + Grounds
The Building + Grounds committee is tasked with the maintenance and upkeep of the church property, both church building and grounds, as well as the Manse property, working closely with the pastor.  Cheryl Huenecke serves as the current chair of the committee.

Christian Education
The Christian Education committee is tasked with oversight regarding all education opportunities at HHPC, including youth and adult classes and events.

Endowment/Stewardship/Finance
The Endowment/Stewardship/Finance Committee is tasked with tracking financial information regarding the church’s activities, planning stewardship campaigns and preparing a budget for the church.  Either Wilda Duncan, Susan Frangella or Karen Hoffman serves as the current chair of the committee.

Fundraising
The Fundraising Committee is tasked with planning and leading of fundraising efforts within and without the church to raise funds for un-budgeted expenses and mission opportunities.  Susan Frangella serves as the current chair of the committee.

Mission
The Mission Committee is tasked with oversight over all mission aspects of our congregation, ranging from local missions to international missions and coordination and connection with Mission Council 8, a group of Chicago-land Presbyterian Churches that gather together for mission efforts well beyond the scope or ability of any singular church.  Kim Ambrosat serves as the current chair of the committee.

Nominating
The Nominating Committee is tasked with nominating a group of members from HHPC to serve on the Board of Deacons and Session.  Membership on the Nominating Committee changes each year, and consists of Deacons, Elders and members-at-large.  The chair of the committee changes each year as well.

Outreach
The Outreach Committee is tasked with extending the missions and programs of the church to inspire both new and existing members.  The committee aims to welcome those who SEEK His love while CELEBRATING His word with all generations.  The committee exists to increase the church’s community involvement, while embracing home, sharing beliefs and coming together to serve His will.  Gordon Home serves as the current chair of the committee.

Personnel
The Personnel Committee is tasked with dealing with all personnel matters of the church, mostly in issues regarding the paid staff of the church.  Jean Swearingen serves as the current chair of the committee.

Worship + Music
The Worship + Music Committee is tasked with overseeing all matters related to the planning and support of worship services at the church.  Melanie Swindle serves as the current chair of the committee.

REV Worship
The REV Worship Committee, initially part of the Worship + Music Committee, is tasked with the planning and support of the 5:00 pm REV Worship service, a contemporary service.  Unique in its history and structure, this committee primarily consists of non-pastor-led planning.  Scott Zimmerman serves as the current chair of the committee.

Become an Elder

Ruling Elders are ordained members of the church who serve on Session, the board tasked with making official decisions of the church. Elders are elected by the congregation to Session for a two-year term, and may serve up to two consecutive terms. Each fall the Nominating Committee accepts nominations of church members to serve in this capacity. You may pass along suggestions to the Nominating Committee or the church office.
