Mission

“Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.” (Matthew 25:40)

The mission of our church is to minister to the needs of those less fortunate than us. In accordance with Christ’s teachings throughout the Gospels, our church has a number of programs to help the needy. We participate in missions throughout the year. HHPC is a part of Mission Council 8, a group of Chicagoland Presbyterian Churches that work together on missions that no single church could take on.

COMMUNITY MEAL

HHPC serves a Drive-Thru Community Meal on the 1st Monday of every month from 5:30-6PM. The meal is free to all who come. Our purpose is to share a hot, home-cooked meal and a sign of God’s love to everyone who come, regardless of need.

MICRO-PANTRY

The HHPC Micro-Pantry is located in front of the building, facing 95th St. It is stocked with non-perishable foods free for the taking. The motto of the pantry is “Take what you need, leave what you can.” All our food is provided by donation. The pantry is intended to serve as an emergency resource for anyone who is in need.

PRAYER SHAWLS

An active group of knitters and crocheter’s provide these prayer shawls for those who are walking through a difficult season of life. These shawls are prayed over before they are gifted.

TREE OF WARMTH

Every November and December HHPCs collects hats, gloves, mittens, socks, and other cold weather protection. Some of these items are added to our micro-pantry, but most are donated to other neighborhood organizations to share the warmth with those in need.

ELSIE’S FOOD PANTRY

Housed at Savior Divine Lutheran Church (located at 10040 S. 88th Ave.), HHPC has been a long time supporter of Elsie’s Food Pantry. Throughout the year we gather food and monetary donations, making regular deliveries to support their ministry. For more information, visit the pantry’s website.

FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN (FMSC)

HHPC makes regular food-packing trips to support the work of FMSC whose mission is to end childhood hunger throughout the world. In both packing food and monetary support we can help in some small way to alleviate the suffering of others.

POP-TOPS – RONALD MCDONALD

HHPC collects the small, metal tabs off your pop cans, this metal is donated to Ronald McDonald houses and is recycled and the money used to support their work. HHPC is a member of the million tabs club at one hospital. We are working towards achieving the same goal at Christ Hospital.

BOTTLE CAPS – PLASTIC BENCHES

Did you know those plastic caps and lids can be turned into park benches and picnic tables? HHPC collects clean, sorted plastic lids and caps which are put then to better use as picnic tables and other plastic furniture. The lovely blue bench in front of our building is a great example.

PRESBYTERIAN MISSION

Mainly through financial giving, we support a number of mission programs through the Presbyterian Church (USA), including One Great Hour of Sharing.  More information is available at presbyterianmission.org.

JONES CENTER

The Jones Center is one of our local missions. A community center in the heart of Chicago Heights, the Jones Center is a safe haven in a very deprived area. Children come for after-school tutoring, activities and dinner. There are many programs for the children and each Friday a meal is served for the homeless. Along with the other Mission Council 8 churches, We have spent many hours at the center painting, cleaning, building a computer room and even assisting in the play lot construction. In past years, we have supported their food pantry and donated scarves, mittens and Christmas gifts for the children’s after school program. We also volunteer to serve Thanksgiving dinner to adults and Christmas breakfast with Santa to children.

Every November and December HHPCs collects hats, gloves, mittens, socks, and other cold weather protection. Some of these items are added to our micro-pantry, but most are donated to other neighborhood organizations to share the warmth with those in need.
